Friday, 06 January 2012 09:32

Team Belarus and team Russia won their matches on the second day of the 8th Christmas International Tournament of Hockey Amateurs for the Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus.

Meanwhile team Austria continued to surprise their opponents in Group "A". After tie with hosts they have beaten team Sweden - 4:3. Guests from Alps again conceeded first, but thanks to the spurt at the end of the second period, done by Stefan Herzog and Rok Roisek, took the lead in the game. Scandinavians made the score equal on 42th minute, but still could not grab even one point. Again Rok Roisek upset Swedish goalkeeper Kent Johansson, and led his team on top of the group till the night game.

Team Belarus looked forward to win the game against Finland in order to keep hopes alive to get to the final, that they never missed before. And they had done it - 9:2. As on previous day in Sports Palace fans had to wait a while to see the puck in the net. Only on 11th minute Oleg Malashkevich managed to beat Tomi Raisanen. But later in the game Finnish goalie had a bunch of goals in net. Oleg Antonenko most frequently was involved in attacks of his team with 5 points (2 goals + 3 assists).

Best players of the game: Alexei Plotnikov (Team Belarus) and Tomi Raisanen (Team Finland).

In Group "B" at the Ice Palace team Czech Republic didn`t experience any problems with team Slovenia - 5:1. Jiri Krasny scored again, reaching three goals mark. Czech goalkeeper made several nice saves and allowed only one goal in his net. Slovenians found themselves on the last place in their group and are not expected to get higher.

Best players of the game: Martin Altrichter (Team Czech Republic) and Joze Kovac (Team Slovenia).

Games between Russia and Canada on any level is always big event. At this Christmas tournament, it was also expected to be a game of the day, because two years ago Canadians had beaten Russians. So, everybody expected the payback. It happened and was very convincing.

The team of Alexander Medvedev immediately unleashed a flurry of attacks on Dan Giffin. Canadian goalie had  to take puck from his goal six times only during the first period. Almost all Russian players except goalkeepers took part in "bombing" of opponents gate. As a result everybody but Valery Kamensky was noted in the game protocol in graphs "goals" and "assisits".

In the middle of the match Canadians managed to organize couple successful attacks, and still they continued to attempt to minimize the goal difference on scoreboard, but had no changes even to tie a game. "Russian Machine" was not going to stop. Final horn stopped it on the fifteen(!) goal mark.

15:3 - Russian team had demonstrated its power and 99 percent already in the final of the tournament.

Vitaly Prokhorov scored three goals and made two assists, what brought him the title of the most productive player in his team. "Maple Leafs" were again led by Kerry Goulet and Robert Cranston, who continued to occupy top positions in the best scorers list of the tournament.

Best players of the game: Sergei Korolev (Team Russia) and Jason Smith (Team Canada).
