Polesie Cup 2011. Day 1

The fifth International ice hockey Tournament "Polesie Cup" started in Gomel.

 

After visiting other Belarusian cities last year the tournament returned to its “home” place. The formula of the "Polesie Cup" also returned to it`s usual form - four teams will play against each other and after three rounds will determine winner.

This year, teams from Denmark, Norway, Slovenia and Belarus arrived on Polesie. All of them brought quite competitive rosters, except the hosts, who included mostly young and promising players from the Extraleague.

Teams of Norway and Slovenia came on ice of the Gomel Ice Palace in the first game of the day. It brought no surprises and Vikings eventually won - 3:1. A bit disappointed was Norwegian goalkeeper Pal Grotnes, who lost the chance for a shutout to in 4 seconds before the end of the game.

Nevertheless, Pal was recognized as the best player in his team. Ziga Jeglic was the best among Slovenians.

Penalties: 16 - 16

After the opening ceremony Belarus and Denmark started their game. Unfortunately, failing the second period with the score 0:3, the hosts were unable to get back in the third and lost - 2:4. Assistant "hat-trick" made Morten Madsen.
The best player of the match the winners was recognized by Julian Jakobsen, among the Belarusians - Pavell Razvadovsky.

On the 12th of November Denmark will face Norway (15:00 EET), Slovenia will meet Belarus (19:00 EET).
