Best athletes of year 2010 were named during the ceremony closing public contest “Triumph. To Sports Heroes 2010". Spectacular and colourful show was held on February 25 at the Sports Palace.

A joint project of Republican State and Public Association "President's Sports Club", National State Teleradiocompany of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus and National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus once again caused a wide resonance and support among the country's sports fans.1 million 342 thousand 265 fans took part in voting for the best sportsmen.

New format of the show was presented this time, where athletes got the main role. They not only received their well deserved awards, but also directly participated in the concert show. Creator of one of the most exciting sports moments in the history of the country Vladimir Kopat tried himself as a performer of the song "Do not think about the seconds from the top", and the owner of Triumph statuettes in 2008, Inna Zhukova sang in a duet with Georgiy Koldun.

Hosts of the ceremony Olga Barabanschikova and Denis Kurian presented a jury that selected the best in four categories.

First for the audience appeal was presented the nomination "The Breakthrough of the Year", where triumphed the Olympic silver medalist, Sergei Novikov (biathlon).

Bronze statuette in the category "For the will to win" is traditionally given to disabled athletes. In 2006 and 2008 this nomination was won twice by the repeated champion of the Paralympics Ludmila Volchek, which for the third time was among three nominees. Jury selection was a bit unexpected, but quite deserved - Dmitry Loban with injury came to the start of the ski race at the Winter Paralympics 2010 in Vancouver and in the hard-fought struggle got a bronze medal. Triumph of human spirit and a great desire helped Dmitry reach the Olympic podium, and the stage of the Sports Palace.

Shooter Sergey Martynov hit the "The result of the Year" with a solid collection of awards last year, including World Championships and World Cup Final.

"The most striking sports moment of the Year" happened, when Alexei Grishin made his crucial second jump in freestyle, which brought the first in the sovereign Belarus history Olympic gold medal at the Winter Olympics.

Then came the turn of the "people" nominations where the best were determined by the vote.

In the category "Coach of the Year" the head coach of women's basketball national team Anatoly Buyalsky was named as a winner. He won with a minimum margin ahead of the head coach of the football club BATE (Borisov) Viktor Goncharenko. Only tenths of a percent separated them.

First in the category "Sportswoman of the Year", as expected, became the bronze medalist of the Winter Olympics Darya Domracheva, who received nearly half a million votes. Leader of the Belarusian biathlon team was not present on the ceremony, as she was preparing for the upcoming World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, but with live stream found the way to thank their fans. Statuette received Darya`s mother Larisa Minina.

The Olympic champion Alexei Grishin became the winner in the category "Sportsman of the Year" with a solid advantage. Alex was first in the history of the contest received two statuettes in a single contest.

The best team in the past year has been recognized as the women basketball national team of the Republic of Belarus, which finished fourth at the World Championship. Natalia Marchenko warmly thanked all the fans and assured that the team was very pleased to win and finished ahead of FC BATE (Borisov).

Traditionally, congratulations for the winners of the contest organizers had invited the heads of companies that make a significant contribution in support of Belarusian sport. Special prize for the winner of the "Breakthrough of the Year" has been established by the Joint Stock Company" Belarusian Automobile Plant, for the winner of the nomination "For the will to win" - by the company "Convex international", in the category "Result of the Year" - by the foreign enterprise, "Velcom", Private Unitary Enterprise "BT Telecommunications" had prepared gift for the winner in nomination "The most striking sports moment of the Year", prize winner in the category "Coach of the Year" had established the Belarusian Potash Company, in the category "Sportswoman of the Year" - by the group of companies "Triple", "Sportsman of the Year" was congratulated by the group of companies "Univest-M", and winner of the category "Team of the Year" received valuable gift from the company "Sport-pari".

Ceremony ended with a joint performance of the song "Heroes of sport". Next winners and nominees of the project "Triumph. Sports Heroes "will be known after the 2012 Olympics in London.
